Governor Janet Mills

“Maine Gov. Janet Mills wins second term, defeating former GOP Gov. Paul LePage” - NPR, 11.09.22

When Janet Mills won in 2018, she became the first woman ever elected to the governorship of Maine. Once in office, Mills hit the ground running. She signed an executive order expanding Maine’s Medicaid program, increased funding for public schools, enacted regulations to make the state more environmentally friendly, pledged to turn Maine carbon neutral by 2045, and put in place a series of innovative policies to better prepare the state and its people for the future.

In March 2022, she launched her re-election campaign with this piece by A|L Media. Inspired by real letters Mills had received during her gubernatorial tenure, it includes excerpts from those letters read by real Mainers, and ends with her own heartfelt letter back to the people of the state — and her vision for a second term. Through the use of archival news broadcasts, it also highlights some of Mills’ outstanding successes from her first term.

In the general election, Mills faced a tough opponent in former two-term governor Paul LePage. Despite this, Mills won with 55.7% of the vote (55.7% to 42.4%). In total, 376,000 votes were cast for Governor Mills — the most ever in Maine’s 200-year history. Hats off to team A|L for their amazing work during the cycle (I only produced this campaign launch video).
