In 2016, former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland ran for US Senate. Born one of nine kids in southern Ohio, Strickland went on to become the first person in his family to go to college, earned a PhD in counseling psychology, became an ordained minister — and as a public servant, served in US Congress for six terms (OH-06) before becoming the 68th governor of Ohio.

Although incumbent Senator Rob Portman ended up winning reelection, Governor Strickland and AKPD ran an excellent campaign with a ton of heart.
